In this position as a **Cardiac Sonographer Lead** you will have the opportunity to work in a fast-paced, dynamic academic clinical environment with potential for further professional growth and development. **LOCATION:**

+ Possibility of occasional weekend coverage as needed

**DUTIES:**

+ Leadership in Cardiac Sonography

+ Completion of cardiac imaging ultrasound scans

+ Include but not limited to Echo, Vascular and Structural Heart

+ Outpatient/clinic setting

+ 8-10 Patients per day

POSITION SUMMARY

This position is responsible for technical, clinical activities associated with echo lab and day to day operations in hospital and those diagnostic services. Serves as a resource to all levels of medical, nursing, echo techs and IT technical personnel. Responsible for timely completion of daily echo service work schedule, timely through put of complete echocardiograms, operation and maintenance of echo lab equipment and department compliance to Intersocietal Accreditation Commission for Accredited Echo Labs standards. Collaborates with the Manager of the department to optimize department performance. Assists with training of new staff. Performs echo studies at least 90% of the time as part of their daily routine.

CORE FUNCTIONS

1. Meets internal and external client service expectations and promotes continuous improvement philosophy of the department and hospital. Demonstrates efficient and effective use of resources in meeting customer expectations and performing job responsibilities. Establishes and maintains effective working relationships with all clients and resolves client concerns promptly and courteously. Maintains effective, courteous communication with medical, nursing and technical personnel. Work to improve client service. Promotes timely turnaround time to ordering physician measured by order to results time.

2. Responsible for technical, clinical activities associated with daily operations as outlined above. Demonstrates ability to train others to perform echo tech duties. Ensures that all training and orientation requirements are completed by all staff and students within the designated time frame. Uses resources appropriately, sharing ideas for cost savings and efficiency. Coordinates peer interviews and contributes to hiring and termination, assists Manager in disciplinary issues and performance evaluations. Promotes timely turnaround time for results and productivity.

3. Maintains compliance to ICAEL standards. Is responsible for preparing the echo lab for accreditation and maintaining accreditation. Prepares sonographers and physicians for accreditation.

4. Serves as a resource to all levels of medical, nursing, echo techs and IT technical personnel.

5. Support of Department and Organization Operations - Ensure effective and efficient service by supporting the established goals of the service, department, and organization. Uses national benchmark data to optimize quality, productivity and efficiency. Develops ideas and implements actions to assist other sonographers in achieving their goals. Supports the goal of the organization and the departmental goals by implementing effective action plans.

6. Proactively identifies areas of opportunity and presents it to the group in a positive format so as to get full cooperation from the staff. Collaborates with unit managers and ED manager and others to streamline processes for purpose of facilitating patient progression. Collaborates with Department Manager in meeting growth goal of the department.

7. Performs diagnostic tests and accurately reports results using standard operating policies and procedures to meet requirements of all applicable regulatory agencies. Tracks all complete echocardiograms and ensures results are reported in a timely manner.

8. Provides shift lead supervision to clinical staff. Does not manage staff. Works independently to provide excellent patient care. Internal customers include patients, staff, and physicians. External customers include patient family.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Associate degree and completion of an accredited Allied Health Cardiovascular program.

Must have American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonography (ARDMS) or Cardiovascular Credentialing International (CCI) as a Cardiac Sonographer.

Requires three years of diagnostic cardiology or cardiac sonography experience. Must demonstrate high quality skills as a cardiac sonographer, acts as a clinical resource, has ability to effectively train others, promote quality and efficiency, and demonstrates an expertise in cardiac sonic imaging and is knowledgeable in accreditation standards.

Additional related education and/or experience preferred.
